Threemile Restoring Fish Passage

Wheelbarrow Creek near Stevensville, MT

Goals

Remove a culvert that is a significant fish passage barrier and replace it with a bridge as well as several in-channel grade control structures that permit and support fish migration. Additionally, approximately 1.7 miles of road improvements to reduce sediment contribution in surrounding drainages.

Project Description

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks has identified a significant barrier to fish migration, specifically to the ESA-listed Westslope Cutthroat, in Wheelbarrow Creek. A culvert will be removed and replaced with a bridge and several in-stream grade control structures. Road improvements will occur on approximately 1.7 miles to reduce sediment contributions in surrounding drainages with the Wheelbarrow Creek Watershed. Implementation is expected early Summer, 2023.
