Sediment Reduction on Three Mile Creek

On August 21, 2012, the Water Forum completed a sediment reduction project on a section of Three Mile Road. Because of highly erosive soils in the drainage, Three Mile Creek is a significant contributor of sediment to the Bitterroot River. The Ravalli County Road and Bridge Department installed a culvert and applied crushed rock to armor the surface of the road. The goal of the project was to reduce the amount of fine sediment entering Three Mile Creek from the road surface and ditch at the road/creek crossing. The Water Forum will monitor the effectiveness of the project to reduce sediment delivery as we pursue other projects to help keep our waters clean.
