Clearwater Crossing FAS - Revegetation
Location
The banks of the Blackfoot River near Clearwater, MT at the Clearwater Crossing Fishing Access Site
Goals
Restore riverside vegetation for wildlife habitat, river shading, riverside cohesion, and aesthetics.
Project Description
The Clearwater Crossing FAS is a popular site and is used heavily by the public for river access and camping. Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks recently revamped the FAS with a dedicated boat launch and campsite locations away from the river and was concerned by the lack of riverside vegetation. Approximately 0.5 acres of riparian area at the site will be revegetated with native tree species and will be surrounded by fencing to reduce wildlife browse. Areas that are disturbed during implementation will be re-seeded with native species. Implementation is scheduled for early Summer, 2023.
Riverside plants:

-
Form thick webs of roots that hold the land together, reducing erosion
-
Improve water quality by filtering pollutants
-
Create shade to keep waters cool for thriving native fish and other aquatic life
-
Help refill our underground water supply
-
Provide critical habitat for fish, birds, and other wildlife
